What Could Be Better Than Owning a Thermomix? Owning Two!

I can barely contain my excitement today since I got an email about the 24 months interest free offer on the new thermomix.  I called my demonstrator, if you’ve read my earlier posts you’ll know I already have the older model.  So in 2-3 weeks I will be the proud owner of a new thermie, I will be the proud owner of two thermies!  It’s so exciting, you’ll understand this if you have one.

I’ve had a conversation with a friend and her husband tonight about the “cult”, as he calls it.  Their first response was “what do you need another one for?”  The thing is they are right, I don’t need a new one, no.  But there are so many benefits to having the new one, and having two.

The new thermie has a bigger bowl, has chips for the cookbooks and allows me to multitask.  I live a busy life, I work full time, I do an over time night duty once a fortnight, and I study as well.  I try to balance my mornings, afternoon and night duties with food preparation, study and maintain some kind of an exercise routine.  Not to mention I have to find time in there for my partner and to socialise with friends and family.  For me to balance all of that I have to be organised, I’m not home for dinner 6 nights a fortnight which means I need to have something prepared.  My partner works casual at the moment while he’s studying full time, so I try to always have some kind of leftovers in the fridge as he has no routine, and gets called with very little notice.  So for our household to work well we have to have things organised.  I recently bought a slow cooker too, so now I need to find some recipes for that too.  However, I see the second thermomix as a way for me to not only upgrade but I can cook two meals at once, meaning if I don’t feel like cooking, or when uni goes back and I have a lot of homework to do we’ll be more organised.

The thermomix is more than some expensive blender to make smoothies and cook risotto in.  But I like to take it that little step further, you can make your own bread, I make my own butter, vegetable stock concentrate, cooking layered meals and lots of all in meals.  I want to start using it a whole lot more than I have been though.

Buying another thermomix has inspired my cooking – in addition to my recent slow cooker I want to get organised.  I figure between the two thermomix’s, and the slow cooker I can cook enough meals for a week at least, maybe two.  We can freeze some and keep some in the fridge on hand.  But they aren’t just for dinner, tonight I made muesli to have with some store bought yoghurt (something I’m endeavouring to make myself sometime), there’s other things we can make that aren’t food related, washing detergent, beauty products but where does it end?  I don’t have time for all of those things, but there’s something there for everyone.

What I love the most is that it’s so easy to make things from scratch, no frozen packages with who know’s what in there.  I like that we know exactly what’s in our food, no chemicals or artificial colours, and it’s definitely healthier.  Unfortunately there are way too many recipes out there, and not enough time for me to make them.  And, I didn’t even mention snacks and desserts which I intend explore on my next days off…  I went and had a baking day with a friend and it’s just made me so much more motivated for cooking.
